The "Surf and Soul" program is a unique opportunity to build self-confidence and discipline while learning the world's greatest and most challenging sport - SURFING.
Rabbi Shifren, the "Surfing Rabbi," will personally show you how surfing can help develop all areas of your life, profoundly increasing your spiritual awareness. |

Rabbi Shifren's 40 years of experience as a big-wave surfer in Hawaii, Mexico and Malibu Beach , as well as being a physical fitness instructor in the Israeli army, provide a formidable background from which every participant will benefit.
Learn the secrets of the "Surf and Soul" attitude through the program's deep involvement in ocean skills, superior nutrition, and physical fitness!
As a former Malibu lifeguard and Catalina Channel paddle boarder, Rabbi Shifren's years with the L.A. County Beach Lifeguards give him invaluable hands-on lifesaving, rescue and first-aid experience.

At the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War he became a kibbutz volunteer, and in 1977 emigrated to Israel. Shifren served in the Israeli Defense Forces and received a degree in Combat Fitness Training at the prestigious Machon Wingate Institute for Sports in Netanya, Israel.
Shifren received a Bachelor of Arts degree from UC Santa Barbara in Spanish and German Literature. He continued graduate studies in West Germany at the University of Goettingen. Rabbi Shifren is a language teacher and is fluent in Spanish, German, Hebrew and Yiddish.
Rabbi Shifren attended Toras Chayim Yeshiva in Jerusalem and Yeshivat Tomchei Tmimim in Kfar Chabad, Israel, where he received his rabbinical ordination in 1990. |

At "Surf and Soul" you will have the most knowledgeable, safety conscious, and experienced instructors.
You'll learn: |
- How to efficiently paddle and sit on your board
- How to avoid "panicking" and being scared in the water
- How to maintain control of your board at all times
- How to understand waves and swells
- Efficient utilization of tide charts
- Proper surfer's etiquette -- in and out of the water -- in the spirit of Hawaiian "aloha"
- All surfing equipment provided- you just show up at the beach!
